The Coalition For Another CAP is organizing the meeting “40 years of Spain in the EU: understanding the CAP to understand Europe” on May 7, 2026 , in the morning ( 9:00–14:00 h ), at the Headquarters of the European Parliament and the European Commission in Madrid .

To mark the 40th anniversary of Spain's accession to the then European Economic Community, this event is conceived as a space for strategic reflection on the role that the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has played in our country over these four decades, as well as on the debates that will shape its future in the context of the post-2027 CAP and the new Multiannual Financial Framework .

The meeting will have an informative, journalistic approach, grounded in rigorous reporting , with the aim of facilitating a debate on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and fostering an informed dialogue between institutions, the agricultural sector, and civil society. To this end, the event is being organized in collaboration with the leading associations of journalists specializing in the agri-food, environmental, and rural sectors in Spain: the Spanish Association of Agri-Food Journalists (APAE), the Association of Environmental Journalists (APIA), and the Rural Journalists Network .

Throughout the morning, representatives from European institutions will participate, including the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Court of Auditors, as well as national institutional officials, experts in agricultural policies and a final block dedicated to the voice of those who will experience the future CAP , with the participation of young farmers and livestock breeders and rural youth networks.

The program will be articulated around different spaces for dialogue that will allow us to address, from different perspectives, the impact of the CAP in Spain, its evolution and the challenges it faces in a context of ecological transition, generational change and territorial cohesion.

In addition, the meeting will include a networking space accompanied by local products , made by sustainable producers (in its triple economic, social and environmental sense), as a way of highlighting the value of the territory and its diversity.

Space is limited, so prior registration is required to attend.
