Day of Travel to Rural Spain: Women at the Forefront of Change in Gran Canaria - FADEMUR

On May 29th, a training and information day will be held in Agüimes (Gran Canaria) focusing on shared ownership, generational change, aid and subsidies aimed at the agricultural sector and innovation in entrepreneurship led by women in the region.

The objectives of this day are:

  1. To provide specific information on the incorporation of women into the economic activity of rural areas, promoting their incorporation and the entrepreneurial initiatives of rural women through the exchange of good practices.
  2. To disseminate among the rural population in general, and in particular among women who live and work in rural municipalities, the changes that have occurred with the entry into force of Law 35/2011, of October 4, on Shared Ownership of Agricultural Holdings, as well as other rural development measures.
  3. To promote the importance of incorporating women and young people into the agricultural and livestock activities of our municipalities.
  4. To publicize the opportunities offered by CAP instruments for the incorporation of women and young people into agricultural activity and access to the other measures of rural development programs.
  5. Report on women's access to governance bodies of professional agricultural organizations and cooperatives and other entities related to agricultural activity and rural development
  6. To increase public awareness and knowledge about the importance of the agricultural sector by highlighting good policies and good practices implemented by women.
  7. To inform unemployed women in rural areas about the job opportunities and employment prospects that exist, facilitating their access to the labor market, whether through employment or self-employment.
  8. To inform about women's access to new technologies and their use in rural areas and to promote good practices in their application.

PLANNED PROGRAM:

9:30 a.m. Reception, registration and welcome of participants.
9:45 a.m. Opening of the day . Welcome remarks by Oscar Hernández Suárez, Mayor of the Illustrious City Council of Agüimes, Juan Francisco Acosta Arias, Councillor for Rural Development of the Illustrious City Council of Agüimes, and Ventura del Carmen Rodríguez Herrera, President of the Women 7 FADEMUR Canarias Association.
10:00 a.m. Presentation: “CAP Instruments for the Incorporation of Young Women into Agricultural and Livestock Activities.” Speakers: Laura Morales Jiménez, Head of the Agricultural Structures and Rural Development Service, and Aránzazu Hernández Dorta, Head of the Agricultural Structures Management Unit of the Government of the Canary Islands.
10:35 a.m. Presentation: “Shared ownership of agricultural holdings. Benefits for the Canary Islands population.” Speaker: Juani Vega Artiles, Technician at the Gran Canaria Island Association for Rural Development – AIDER-GC.
11:10 a.m. Panel “Women Leading Change: Experiences in Rural Entrepreneurship”. Speakers:
- Nadia Martina, Head of Communication and Marketing at Salinas Bocacangrejo in the municipality of Agüimes
- Ysaura González Socorro, Beekeeper operating in the municipality of Ingenio
- Serafina Suárez García, Manager of the rural hotel and restaurant Cueva de la Tea in the municipality of Tejeda

12:20h Visit to Ana's La Jaira Farm School: An example of innovation and female entrepreneurship in the municipality of Agüimes
