Cultivation and culture share an etymological root and meaning, although in Spanish a distinction has been made between the words. The word culture derives from the Latin verb " colere ," meaning "to cultivate." One form of the verb is " cultum ," which in Latin means agriculture. The Latin adjective " cultus " refers to the property of a field being cultivated. For this reason, "cultura" meant "agriculture," "cult," and "cultivated." The Anglo-Saxons, on the other hand, retained the term "culture," which comes from the Latin " col ere," meaning both culture and cultivation.
It is not difficult to understand, therefore, the importance of developing a sociocultural industry in villages to maintain the identity and cohesion of rural populations.
