The PAC Network is organizing a series of conferences in different autonomous communities, the central theme of which will be the figure of eco-regimes.

  • The PAC Network is organizing a series of conferences in different autonomous communities, the central theme of which will be the figure of eco-regimes.
  • Ecoregimes are direct CAP payments that farmers receive when they carry out a series of practices that benefit the environment and the climate.
  • They are voluntary and have a higher level of demand than conditionality.

One of the main new features of the 2023-2027 CAP is that all Member States must have a CAP Strategic Plan outlining the interventions or measures intended to achieve the CAP objectives and the ambition of the European Green Deal . The design of these interventions is based on a thorough analysis of the needs of the agricultural sector and the rural environment as a whole. This aims to make the CAP more responsive to current and future challenges, such as climate change and generational change, while continuing to support farmers in achieving a sustainable and competitive agricultural sector.

In this commitment, the new CAP included different specific interventions unrelated to traditional regimes, and which are aimed at promoting practices that are beneficial for the climate and the environment: eco -regimes , Voluntary practices that farmers can implement to improve environmental and climate performance and that allow them to receive direct support . These practices are linked to carbon farming and agroecology and whose objectives are:

  1. Improve soil structure and increase its carbon content.
  2. Reduce erosion and desertification.
  3. Reduce greenhouse gases.
  4. Promote the biodiversity of agricultural spaces and landscapes.
  5. Conservation of natural resources.

Recently, eco-regimes have undergone some modifications —as part of the changes introduced into the CAP at the request of the agricultural sector to make the tasks of farmers and ranchers more flexible and simpler—and have acquired some new features that further facilitate their voluntary implementation.

Given the importance of eco-regimes, the CAP Network has organized a 10-day series—free of charge and with on-site visits to farms where the workshops are held—to promote the application of good practices in agriculture and livestock farming applicable to eco-regimes in different territories, as well as to create a space for exchange among farmers, ranchers, and any organization in the sector, so that they can share doubts, solutions, and experiences.
