CaixaBank and GAL ASIR have launched a new edition of the 'Land of Opportunities' program , an initiative aimed at promoting job creation, boosting rural entrepreneurship and stabilizing populations in depopulated areas.
The sixth edition of 'Land of Opportunities', which will be open from May 14 to June 4, will recognize innovative, sustainable rural projects with the ability to attract and retain talent, as well as create new job opportunities in areas facing significant demographic challenges.
GAL ASIR's participation in Tierra de Oportunidades is not new. In the 2023 edition, the group actively supported rural entrepreneurial talent, awarding four prizes to innovative projects in the region that stood out for their viability, impact, and growth potential. That call for proposals provided a significant boost to the selected initiatives, improving their visibility and facilitating new development opportunities.
This sixth edition of the competition, whose results are expected to be announced before June 30, will be carried out in collaboration with more than 50 Local Action Groups across the country and entrepreneurship promotion organizations in 49 provinces. A total of 216 entrepreneurs and projects from across the country will be awarded.
The call is aimed at entrepreneurs whose activity is carried out in a municipality or district of the territory of action of the GAL ASIR , with a population of less than 5,000 inhabitants, although in some regions municipalities with up to 10,000 inhabitants will be accepted, and who have a turnover of less than 300,000 euros per year.
The winning projects will receive grants of 1,000 euros, will be incorporated into a mentoring and personalized support program, in collaboration with specialist mentors from CaixaBank Volunteering and will have access to the 'Land of Opportunities Challenge', a national initiative in collaboration with the Spanish Rural Development Network (REDR) and Rural Talent, which offers visibility, support and new growth opportunities to rural entrepreneurs.
The winners will also have the opportunity to have one of their projects featured on the U4Impact platform , allowing a university student to complete their Final Degree Project (TFG) on a challenge faced by their company or venture. Additionally, CaixaBank has launched a shared platform , www.caixabank.es/tierradeoportunidades , to foster a community among all the entrepreneurs.
Five-year program
Since its launch in 2021 by CaixaBank Social Action, the ' Land of Opportunities ' program has supported more than 7,000 entrepreneurs and signed 193 collaboration agreements with Rural Development Groups (RDGs) and social entities working for rural integration to promote rural entrepreneurship and employment in these areas.
In collaboration with the regional GDRs, the Spanish Rural Development Network (REDR) and the Rural Talent entrepreneurship promoter, the program has also awarded 670 projects in its five years.
About CaixaBank Land of Opportunities
Tierra de Oportunidades is a CaixaBank Social Action program that aims to support entrepreneurship, create jobs, and offer future opportunities to rural communities. The organization seeks to directly assist rural entrepreneurs with existing projects by identifying their potential and needs and providing them with financial aid, training, and support.
All of this is supported by the Rural Development Groups (RDGs or LAGs), which have in-depth knowledge of the economic fabric in their respective territories, and by the synergies created with other areas of the entity: from support and mentoring (CaixaBank Volunteering), to financing (MicroBank and AgroBank) and creating a community of entrepreneurs from all over the country (in the training programs launched in conjunction with Rural Talent, with the bank's support).
