The Rural Networks Assembly is a governance body that annually brings together representatives of government agencies (Managing Authorities and Paying Agencies), civil and local representation (NGOs, Local and Regional Authorities and Local Action Groups), representation of the innovation sector (Agricultural Research Institutes and Agricultural Advisory Services) and of National Rural Networks . It is composed of 196 members representing the above categories and each of the member states.
This coordination body, between the European Network for Rural Development (ENRD) and the European Innovation Partnership (EIP-AGRI) , is responsible for promoting the exchange and creation of networks between public and private entities of rural development and innovation to promote the productivity and sustainability of agriculture , facilitate the framework for the activities of the two networks and their thematic groups and ensure their correct monitoring and evaluation.
At this Assembly meeting, the European Commission presented the guidelines for the future CAP , outlined in the recently published communication "The Future of Food and Farming," based on the public consultation, the Cork 2.0 conference, and the contributions made by the thematic and civil dialogue groups.
The objectives of the future CAP will be to promote a resilient and smart agricultural sector , intensify environmental protection and climate action, and strengthen the socioeconomic fabric of rural areas.
The priorities established in this communication are:
- Support for knowledge , innovation and technology
- Fair income support so farmers can earn a living from their labor and invest to improve market-level payments (20% of farms receive 80% of payments)
- Improving risk management (exploring new avenues)
- Intensifying environmental protection and climate action to help achieve the EU's climate and environmental objectives
- Strengthening the socioeconomic fabric of rural areas (new value chains such as clean energy, bioeconomy, circular economy, and ecotourism offer growth and employment potential)
- Attracting new farmers and promoting generational change
- Addressing citizens' concerns about sustainable agricultural production, health, nutrition, food waste, and animal welfare.
