The National Depopulation Forum is established

On October 24, the first meeting of the National Depopulation Forum will be held. This platform comprises representatives of all sectors affected by rural depopulation, including public administrations, economic and social stakeholders, and civil society representatives. The forum will discuss the most effective measures to address this problem and integrate them into the National Strategy to Address the Demographic Challenge. The event can be followed via streaming starting at 11:45 a.m.

The headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will host the first meeting of the National Depopulation Forum on October 24th. This meeting will bring together representatives of all sectors affected by rural depopulation, including public authorities, economic and social stakeholders, and civil society representatives.

The Forum will serve to debate the most effective measures to address the phenomenon of rural depopulation, which currently affects 13% of our territory ; that is, more than 1,350 Spanish municipalities are considered sparsely populated regions with fewer than 8 inhabitants per km 2 ). These measures will be integrated into the National Strategy to Address the Demographic Challenge .

The first meeting to establish the Forum will be inaugurated by Isabel Bombal , Director General of Rural Development, Innovation and Forestry Policy, and then the process of developing the National Strategy to Address the Demographic Challenge will be presented by Isaura Leal , the Government's Commissioner for the Demographic Challenge.

Francisco Boya , president of the Spanish Association of Mountain Municipalities (EsMontañas), will present an analysis of depopulation from a local perspective, while Javier Esparcia , professor at the University of Valencia, will discuss the diagnosis and action needed to combat depopulation in rural areas.

The closing ceremony of the first meeting of the National Forum on Depopulation will be led by Luis Planas , Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
