  • The "Exchange of experiences between Operational Groups and innovative projects on precision livestock farming" brought together different Operational Groups working on this topic at "La Vega Innova"
  • This first day will give way to a series of exchanges between Operational Groups and innovative projects on agricultural and rural issues during 2025.

Innovation in the agricultural sector is advancing by leaps and bounds, and one of the concepts gaining prominence is precision livestock farming . This discipline combines technology, data science, and knowledge of rural environments to improve the management of livestock farms. Through tools such as sensors, artificial intelligence, geolocation systems, and digital platforms, precision livestock farming allows for real-time monitoring of animal health, optimizing available resources and reducing environmental impact, all while maintaining animal welfare.

With this theme as a starting point, the PAC Network held the conference " Exchange of Experiences between Operational Groups and Innovative Projects in the Field of Precision Livestock Farming " on May 21st at the iHub La Vega Innova center in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid). This in-person meeting brought together representatives of Operational Groups ( GGOO ), innovative projects, and other stakeholders in the rural and agri-food sectors, such as research centers, cooperatives, and companies interested in implementing technological solutions in their territories.

With the aim of bringing these innovations to the region and fostering knowledge sharing, the PAC Network has launched a series of innovation workshops that will run throughout 2025.

A day to share, learn and collaborate

The event brought together a broad representation of GGOO (Global Development Organizations), innovative projects, research centers, cooperatives, technology companies, and other rural stakeholders interested in applying digital solutions to livestock farming. The main objective was to share real-life experiences, identify synergies, and promote collaboration between initiatives working on common challenges.

As announced at the institutional opening, these spaces are designed to "build strong innovation networks connected to the needs of the region."

A program focused on practical experience

The event was structured around a dynamic and participatory program. Following the welcome address, the EU-FarmBook tool , linked to the European Horizon 2020 programs and designed to facilitate knowledge transfer at the European level, was shared.

These were followed by live presentations, by the participants themselves, of projects such as “ BOVIEX 4.0 ,” focused on the technological improvement of extensive cattle farming, or the GO Galician Network of Model Farms : a pilot network of farms that will collect economic data to monitor production costs, which are key to the economic viability of farms, along with the GGOO “ SECUESVAC ,” “ BEERISK ,” “ DIAGNOSCORD ,” “ SMART FARM ,” “ SMARTGOAT,and “ Re-Livestock .”

The program concluded with an agora in which innovative projects related to livestock farming were showcased, such as ECOGAN , RECAN , Digitanimal , Optimuu , Deepfarm , Oppgroup , Vacapop and Ixorigue .

A cycle with a vocation for continuity

This first meeting marks the beginning of a cycle of exchanges that will extend until the end of 2025, with new sessions dedicated to other key topics for rural development and agricultural innovation. The PAC Network, in collaboration with the MAPA (Agricultural Innovation Agency), seeks to consolidate an active innovation community that promotes sustainable, replicable solutions adapted to the challenges of the agri-food sector.

With a personal, practical, and collaborative approach, these workshops offer a unique opportunity to bring innovation closer to the region, connect stakeholders in the rural ecosystem, and build a smarter, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly future.
